 2017 Remembrance Ceremony

Mss Beirut Memorial 2

Dear Beirut Families, Veterans and Friends,

“A Time For Remembrance” will be held at the Massachusetts Beirut Memorial at Christopher Columbus Park, 100 Atlantic Avenue, Boston, on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. We’ve selected the 15th so that those traveling to Camp Lejeune on Sunday Oct22 can attend.

For the Remembrance, a family member and a veteran will place a wreath at the Memorial. We will then have a moment of silence.

This will be a fitting gesture of remembrance for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, “… lest they be forgotten”. It is hard to believe that thirty-four years have come and gone, since that fateful day October 23, 1983.

If you cannot attend this brief service on October 15th please feel free to stop by the Memorial at a time that is convenient for you. Your presence there anytime is appreciated, but most especially on that day to honor the memory of our fallen heroes.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us:
Chris Devlin – 781-326-9010, or Chrissie Devlin – 781-888-1507, or

You can also find this event on Facebook and invite others.

Please pass this information on to anyone that may not have internet access.

Thank you. God Bless Our Troops

  1. On Friday, March 9, 2013, members of your organization attended the Massachusetts Coalition of Police Presidents Dinner hosted by Holiday Inn in Boxborough, Massachusetts. When I watched the presentation, it really hit home with me. I was in the United States Navy and stationed on the USS Tarawa as part of the Beirut Lebanon Peace Keeping Force. Our Ship was off the coast of the Mediterranean Sea when these Marines and sailors were killed. I hope you don’t mind and I should have asked before I sent it out, but I have posted the following message on our Facebook page to help get the word out. I did not know we had a Beirut Memorial, but I do now and I will be attending the memorial in October.

The Friends of the Massachusetts Beirut Memorial is having their 30th Memorial anniversary. The current memorial is located in Christopher Columbus Park in Boston, Massachusetts and honors the nine Massachusetts Marines who lost their lives while serving as peacekeepers in Beirut, Lebanon. On October 23, 1983, a radical terrorist group detonated bombs next to barracks housing American and French troops. Among those killed were 241 Americans. This memorial was built through… the efforts of Christine Devlin, mother of fallen Marine Mike Devlin. With its circular shape and long granite bench, the memorial carves out a small space for reflection amid the bustle of the waterfront. October 20th, 2013 will commemorate the rededication of the Massachusetts Beirut memorial after months of preservation and revitalization. The memorial honors the following marines that had given the ultimate and supreme sacrifice.

    LCpl Bradley J. Campus, Lynn, 1962 – 1982
    LCpl Michael J. Devlin, Westwood, 1962 – 1983
    SGT MAJ Frederick B. Douglass, Cataumet, 1936 – 1983
    LCpl Sean R. Gallagher, North Andover, 1952 – 1983
    SGT Edward J. Gargano, Quincy, 1962 – 1984
    LCpl Richard J. Gordon, Somerville, 1961 – 1983
    Capt Michael S. Haskell, Westborough, 1950 – 1983
    SGT Steven B. LaRiviere, Chicopee, 1961 – 1983
    PFC Thomas S. Perron, Whitinsville, 1964 – 1983

This hits home with me, I am a Beirut Lebanon Peace Keeping Force Veteran and I was on the USS Tarawa when these Marines and sailors were killed. Please take a look at their website and if you can help send them an email and/or you can contact their organization at 617-657-9831.
